Xbox One X Receives Conflicting Sales Predictions

Xbox One X’s Scorpio Edition pre-order stock sold out rapidly after being announced by Microsoft, but not everyone believes the console is going to be a colossal success.

According to Michael Pachter—a video game, social media, digital media, and electronics analyst—the Xbox One X will only sell one million copies worldwide this holiday season. Pachter said via Twitter, “Don’t ‘want’ it to fail… 1 million is not a huge success.” This comes after Pachter’s earlier prediction that the Xbox One X would sell “20% of total annual [Xbox One] units, or around 2 million.”

Conversely, Microsoft’s sales team predicted that the Xbox One X will sell out of all retail stores on launch day. This prediction, while biased towards the team’s own product, came after the console’s initial pre-order stock sold out, making it the fastest-selling Xbox to date.

Currently, the Xbox One X is unable to be pre-ordered either online or in stores, as the initial stock (the Scorpio Edition) is sold out. However, Microsoft has stated that more pre-order stock of the normal edition will be coming soon, but the company has not announced when that will occur. More information is supposed to be released sometime in September.

The Xbox One X is scheduled to release worldwide on November 7, 2017, and is said to be the most powerful console ever built. Capable of running cutting-edge games in native 4K, Microsoft claims the console will have faster load times and will support all Xbox One features, including controllers and other accessories from the original Xbox One and the Xbox One S. In addition, keyboard and mouse support will soon be making their way to the Xbox One family, but a specific date for that update has not been revealed.

While Microsoft has stated the Xbox team will no longer be building the original Xbox One, the Xbox One S will still be available alongside its successor. Anyone looking to upgrade to one of these two consoles should be happy to know that their accessories will be compatible with both systems.
